Being a local, it was reprehensible that we had never been to "Attico sul Mare", a renowned restaurant located on a penthouse with a breathtaking view of the sea above the historic Kursaal palace in Grottammare. I take the opportunity of a special event to dine as a couple in this restaurant full of expectations. The welcome was impeccable, kindness and courtesy from all the dining room staff. We opted for the seafood menu... "continuously evolving" consisting of 5 courses (including dessert). The price is a little excessive considering the quantitative aspect, while nothing can be said about the qualitative aspect. We start with an entrée made up of three finger foods, quite tasty and of good quality, the idea of the olive stuffed with San Benedettese broth and the artisanal butter to spread on good freshly baked bread is excellent and original, too bad about the shot which isn't exactly ours liking. Then we were served the appetizers: starting with a carpaccio of smoked amberjack with orange sauce and softened bread, discreet also thanks to the freshness of the catch and then the grilled cuttlefish quintaquarto di mare and mixed salad which were also very good but we weren't there on quantity. We then move on to the first course; of Cavatelli with the quintessence of seafood, which I honestly found a little too tasty and the reduction of the sauce was too important. Then the second called "all turbot" dish based on a slice of turbot cooked in the oven with a "barbecue type" sauce and its toasted tail with a heart of lettuce as a side dish, didn't really convince us. I wasn't crazy about the reinterpretation of tiramisu, I would have preferred a traditional tiramisu. However, the attempts to revisit the traditional recipes of the place are appreciable. The wine we chose, a pecorino from a local winery, was excellent, it's a shame that the price was rather high in my opinion compared to other restaurants in the area, the mark-up price seemed a bit excessive. Unfortunately, none of the dishes hit the mark, perhaps we were too full of expectations. On the contrary, there is nothing to say about the location which is very suggestive, a very nice environment and impeccable service. A large covered attic, with large windows facing the beach where the white color prevails, modern style furnishings. Certainly during the day you can fully enjoy the beautiful panorama and the breathtaking view of the sea, which unfortunately cannot be done in the evening. On a positive note, the evening was accompanied by live piano playing in the background. What can I say, in the end the bill was quite high for two people, which may be acceptable for a location of this type, but as far as the menu was concerned, our expectations were different.
