Absolutely brilliant for a lunch interlude. If you are passing through Bologna and want to take a break with the slightly too nourishing Tagliatelle al Ragù, Lasagne alle Bolognese and other Cotoletta alla Bolognese; but you still want to taste local ingredients (no more boring Poké!) and eat something more substantial and satisfying than a salad, this is a perfect choice. I live in England and I didn't expect to find a fusion restaurant between the famous British "Jacket Potatoes" and succulent Emilian ingredients. At Poormanger, we don't eat poorly: the toppings include, for example, the excellent bologna mortadella, prosciutto parmesan and squacquerone (regional products) as well as other classics of Italian gastronomy (porchetta, burrata, gorgonzola, salsiccia cruda di vitello etc.) prepared intelligently (even creatively for those who have a taste for adventure: I am thinking of Thai chicken and vegetable kebab). The portions are quite digestible and can also be adapted according to appetite (it is possible to have a small individual portion on several choices of starters for example). Generally speaking, it’s also healthier than a big plaster of pasta with sauce or a platter of cold meats and cheeses from Salumeria. We don't violate our purse strings either! It’s possible to have starter + jacket potato or salad + dessert + drink for 20-25€. The bias towards the aesthetics of the room also works very well: earthenware tiles with green glaze, the floor with circular patterns which are almost reminiscent of cosmatesque, without forgetting the retro decorative elements (lamps, post box, bicycle, antique chain stereo and other improbable trinkets). The highlight of the decor remains the mosaic of open books, linked together on a wall and on which there is a drawing of the tuber that we have come to taste. The staff is friendly, young, efficient and speaks good English which makes the experience pleasant and smooth in a country where this is not always a guarantee . It is also admirable to note that the culinary quality and the initial intention have not been diluted even though it is a chain with several restaurants in Italy. In any case, it’s a great “success story” for the founders. I have been there twice and if possible, I would come back.
